Little Boys Bedroom Ideas

It is time to redecorate one of our bedrooms for my son. He is a year old now and it seems only fair that I now create a room fitting a little boy. He has been sleeping in a room with floral window treatments for too long now. I have been hesitant to design a room for him because I wanted my two girls to share a room with twin beds but it looks like they each need to have their own rooms for now. I want to decorate a room that he can grow into, not a nursery that will need to be updated in a year.

Architectual Digest
Typically, I like traditional decor with a bit of mid century or some funky bohemian flair but for his room I am thinking English Country House. Maybe I am drawn to that because I think that I can keep the floral window treatments?? But really, for little boys you can't go wrong with preppy and plaid.

I have a mahogany sleigh bed that my girls have slept in while transitioning from the crib to their big girl beds. I push it up against the wall and put the mattress on it but not the box spring so they are closer to the ground. I never thought that I would be able to use it for a boys room but the last photo from www.cococozy.com shows a great way to add some masculine touches to, what I had considered, a feminine bed.

Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice

Last weekend friends and I hosted a baby shower for our dear friend who is having her first baby in a few weeks. The baby is a girl so we themed the party Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice. We took lots of inspiration from Pinterest and put together a lunch for twelve lovely ladies.

The best place to fit a long table was in my living room. It worked out perfectly because the french doors made it feel like we were outside, despite the chilly temperatures on Saturday. The room has soft silk floral window treatments that coordinated perfectly with our girly tablescape.

My co-hostess Summer designed a centerpiece that could beat any professionals. She used a large silver candelabra and ombre roses with some greens to create a gorgeous showpiece for the center of our table.

For party favors, guests helped themselves to a pink and white themed sugar buffet including pink popcorn, rock candy, white and pink chocolate dipped marshmallow lollipops, and salt water taffy.

Guests were each asked to decorate a hairband for the baby girl using ribbon, flowers, sparkle, feathers and headbands. This baby girl is going to be fancy!

Silhouettes

The Silhouette is a classic in decorative design elements. I especially love them when grouped. Surprisngly the best place for silhouetttes of your children is in the Magic Kingdom. In about three minutes the artists cut sweet little profiles of your cutiepies. I don't know how they do it so well with those little tiny scissors and tired wiggely kids, but they turn out looking just like them. My bookshelves are filled with silhouettes of the girls, as seen in photo above, and next time we go to Disney I plan to have them made of all three. I want to make them into pillows, like in the other picture. I will be sure to post the results!

I had the first three images saved on my computer and, unfortunately, don't have the sources to them but if you know where they came let me know, I'll be happy to post.

What not to wear....

I consider myself a young, stylish woman but right now I live in constant fear of Stacy and Clinton popping out from behind the cereal aisle at Harris Teeter and declaring that they have been secretly filming me (and my wardrobe choices) for the past two weeks. Me, with my hair in a ponytail, a shirt with spit-up on the sleeve, most likely, and my new favorite jean shorts that my husband has declared "mom shorts." How dare he?!? They would make me sit in a room and watch a "highlight reel" of the hot mess that I have become. Well, what a surprise that sassy Stacy would have as she and Clinton went through my closet and saw that I actually do own some of the right clothing, yet it has been almost a year since I have actually worn anything mildly cute. So starting now, I vow to use this blog as my motivation to dress appropriately more often. I may even begin to accessorize again; and, no, allowing my 2 year old to style my hair with her bows does not count.

Here are some of my outfit inspirations:

All easy outfits to pull together in the morning when I am rushing out the door to take my kids to school and all incorporate items that I already own. How easy is an all black outfit? It looks chic and bonus points because I can still wear my yoga pants!! Tucked into some motorcycle boots, they don't look like pajamas but how many times do I find myself at noon looking down and realizing that I still have my pajamas and Uggs on?!? New Year's Resolution --- No More Uggs!
